Remote Khmu village, Luang Namtha Province
I went with a couple of guides on a survey, to try and find interesting places in the hills, with the purpose of pinpointing potential new tourism treks. This trip involved a 8 hour boat ride to Ban KongKham, and then the next day a 4 hour trek up a very steep hill. When we arrived in the village, some of the children, upon seeing me, burst out into tears and ran away.
I was told I was the first 'falang' ever visiting this village. But after about 20 minutes, having introduced ourselves, people started to relax, and were comfortable being photographed.
We stayed at the headman's house that night. After they viewed some of my pictures on my laptop, I was told many families would like to have their photo taken next day. because of our relatively early planned departure, I asked if families could be ready in front of their house next morning. They were.
