The people of this village are of a very small minority group, Lao Bit. Ban Bouam Phieng was a sleepy little village about 12 km east of Luang namtha Town, but has been somewhat altered by the new road from China to Thailand. It is here that the new road continues southwest, and the secondary road to Luang Namtha town branches off.
