Khmu people, Ban Khoup

Another survey in Nale province, trying to find interesting villages that may be suitable and benefit from a new ecotourism venture. 3-4 hours trek away from Ban Khongkham, on the west side of the river, this Khmu village nestles in the hills, overshadowed by some high peaks. the people claimed we were the first farang to visit the village ever. But they were extremely hospitable and looked after us very well. On the afternoon of our arrival, they had to bury a young boy, who died the night before from dysenteria (or something similar). healthcare is of course very limited in such a remote location. I was invited to come and photograph the forest funeral. i politely declined, but more or less had my arm twisted by the headman of the village, so I did. maybe i'll write that story some other time. It was a fascinating experience, but i think it is not appropriate to publish these photos on this site.
